Weld quality starts with clean metal. Oil, oxide and mill scale in the joint area cause porosity and weak welds; discolouration after welding needs removing for appearance and, on stainless, for corrosion resistance. Laser cleaning does both — before and after — with the same tool.
Why laser beats the alternatives here
Grinding and wire brushing are slow, inconsistent and remove base metal. Pickling paste for stainless is an aggressive chemical that's hazardous to handle and dispose of. The GM Mini cleans the joint and the finished seam precisely, without abrasives or chemicals, so your prep is repeatable and your finished work looks the part.
How the GM Mini handles it
A light pass lifts oxide and contaminants from the joint before welding, exposing clean, sound metal. Afterwards, the same gun removes heat tint and discolouration along the seam. The Double Pendulum head keeps the energy even, so you don't over-work one spot.
Typical jobs
- Pre-weld cleaning of joints and edges
- Removing heat tint from stainless steel welds
- Cleaning mill scale from structural steel before fabrication
- Post-weld tidy-up for appearance and inspection
Not sure it'll work on your part?
Send us a weldment and we'll clean the joint or the seam on video, so you can judge it yourself.
