How laser cleaning actually works.
It removes the dirt, not the metal beneath. Here's the physics behind it, and the technology that makes the GM Mini fast, even and safe.
Laser ablation, in three steps
Absorb
The focused 1064 nm beam is absorbed by the contamination — rust, paint, oil or oxide — not by the clean metal beneath.
Ablate
That energy instantly vaporises the contamination off the surface. This is laser ablation.
Intact
The clean metal reflects most of the beam, so with the right settings the surface underneath stays intact.

Three things that make it better
Air-cooled
No chiller, no water circuit — compact, mobile and low-maintenance, with fast start-up. The single biggest practical advantage of the GM Mini.
Double Pendulum head
Two servo-driven mirrors scan the beam in rotated patterns across the surface, for a faster, more even and homogeneous finish with lower energy input.
Air Assist
An automatic air valve blows compressed air into the gun, clearing ablated particles out of the beam path and extending the life of the protective optics.

The two-axis head can drive the beam in different filled patterns — for even energy distribution and a homogeneous surface on any shape.
The oscillating head sweeps the beam across the surface in real time — even coverage, no manual passes.
Safety first
Laser cleaners are Class 4 devices. Always wear protective eyewear rated for the 1064 nm wavelength, and follow the safety instructions in the manual. The GM Mini ships with full documentation.
